You'd need drainage holes - but it should make a good planter.
OR, lift the lid to right angles, and put some perspex , sloping from the top of the lid down to the outer edge and you have a cold frame

I like the cold frame idea, it would work like my tin bath one not sure about a planter because the weight of the soil might push the sides out.

I would go for the cold frame idea. I have a couple of similar looking storage boxes and I would be surprised if they would survive filling with soil.
