            I find that they are easier to get from your local Lidl than the huge UK based supermarkets.

            I chatted to an assistant who was shelf stacking and just asked if they would set some aside for me. "No problem" they said, "they just get binned anyway"!

                  Glad you like it, flopsy, it does a couple of things, it recycles something which gets thrown away, and it makes it useful to us gardeners.

                    Sorry to bump an older thread but do people still get these trays/crates free? I've just been to Aldi and Lidl to ask about them and they looked at me like I was daft.

                          Yup, Lidl still get their spring onions in them, I normally get at least 2 every time I visit. Thanks for the praise for the idea, BTW.

                            this is awesome!!!
                            i'm going to ask at the coop later seeing as i now have a bazillion flower buckets lol

                            but ive never seen any in there so god knows if they do have them.
                            if not i'll have to get the bus to lidl - luckilly b&q is next door to lidl
                            newbie! Be gentle with me while I learn the basics of growing stuff
