Garden twine???

Just wondering what type of twine people use- and why??

I've run out of my ususal thick green twine and have been thinking about using rafia, linseed thread , hessian...but not sure how long they will last exposed to the rain etc before it rots/frays.

Any advice/tips please??

(we really don't want to use plastic ties)

My OH has been known to paint the twine with linseed oil which does seem to lengthen it's life span.

I use any twine that's cheap if it only has to last the summer - like peas or tomatoes. For anything more permanent I use wire.

I generally use the jute twine,it lasts well in all weathers,you could also put a claim into,the gardeners rest,props deptartment, for the tights at the end of this season,as long as the wearers wash em first....phewwww.

I use baling twine. The only reason is; it's freeeeeeeeeeeee!

I prefer natural fibre's just because they do eventually break down.

Like VC I find it will easily last the season, that is if the sparrows don't nick it for nest material.

I use natural jute garden twine, it lasts a season before it disintegrates (the green plastic twine disintegrates too, but isn't biodegradable).

I buy it in bulk in Wilk0's or Tesc0's autumn sale

I use Home Bargains twine 99p for a big ball.

The soft stuff lasts 12 months. The polypropylene stuff lasts years...

I use the jute sort of stuff but I am not usually organised enough to have it to hand when I need it I have been known to tie something up with an odd piece of strong grass or bramble before.
