Compost and Compost from Poo

Not sure if this is the right place for this post but sure it'll be moved if needs be.

I am going to pick up compost dalek bin tomorrow and I am planning to put tea, coffee grounds, fruit/veg peelings/leftovers with cardboard and garden waste in.

I am aware that some people (actually only aware of Two sheds doing this but assuming others do it) compost dog poo by wrapping it in newspaper and putting in a dalek.

My questions are:
a) How does this not stink!?
b) Does it need to go in a separate dalek to be composted on its own
c) Has any one else done this.

Where do you intend to use your compost? Don't use dog poo compost on any edible crops - only on decorative plants.

So separate bin if I'm going to do it then. Usually we pick it up with nappy sacks tie up and it goes straight in the outdoor bin. I can't see how it doesn't smell but I'm sure I read a previous post from TS saying that it didn't!

I'm sure TS will put you right on this, but I suspect what you feed the dog makes quite a difference to any odour, and of course - how to put this delicately? - quantity.
A dog fed on raw meat/bones will digest a lot more of its food than a dog fed on lower quality tinned or dried food that has a lot of filler (cereals and vegetables), and I think as a result the waste composts more quickly too.

Is there any particular reason why we tend to view human or doggy doos as revolting while we are happy to handle cow or horse manure? Is it transmition of various worms or diseases or just us being fickle?

I am squarley in the fickle brigade but have to admit I dont know why. I have gone a small way towards it though in that i have a climbing rose in my garden and place all the doggy doo's around its base, I get a fantastic show of roses from it every year.
Once we regard dog poo as acceptable the next great barrier will be human poo, what a valuable resource we flush away every day, when I was a child we had an outside loo and the product went into a pit, it had to be dug out every so often and was spread on the land. I well remember shining my torch down the spare hole, yes we had a two holer (and they say we have a permisive society now!) and seeing rats eyes glowing back at me. I know people already use composting toilets but do they use it on the veg beds?

Haha I'm iffy about using dog poo, I'm not going fishing in the toilet! I can see my OH face now- he'd have me committed before I could say it's for the garden!

Probably mostly because the poo from meat-eating animals is much richer than from plant-eating animals and plants can very easily be scorched.

I'm fairly sure my father told me that 'during the war' my grandfather used to have spade-depth, spade-width trenches in the garden into which my grandfather would put all the household's human waste and kitchen peelings and immediately shovel soil over it.
He'd let it 'mellow' and the worms churn it over until the following year, when he'd grow potatoes in that row, followed by the usual crop rotation for a couple of years, before starting the whole process again.

Poo belongs in the toilet!! Dog poop belongs in a poopy bag!!

There's no way I would attempt to put in in a compost bin to be used for edible crops or not!

But whatever floats your boat s'pose.

The reason for the two hole seat Bill was so that one side could mature whilst the other was used.

I am fairly sure that I have read that the French used to have loos in their farm houses set above ground sat on a shaft. Occasionally they would open the door at the bottom and recover the proceeds for use on the land.

It is well know that "During the war" the Germans did this regularly, which is why it became know as the "Turd Reich"

In Afghanistan they 'poo' in the fields that they grow the poppies in!! If a neighbouring farm is growing food they go round the farmers field who is growing poppies and fertilises the poopy!!!

Good reason not to do drugs kids.
