Anyway even with a valve in it should not blow off under mains pressure. I have a hand spray attached to mine and when its off the water stops but doesnt blow off the tap. What does happen in very hot weather is that the water in the pipe gets hot and the pipe expands alarmingly then sometimes blows a fitting. As long as you are pushing it on until it clicks and you are using all hozelock parts there would seem to be a faulty part, take it back.photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html

I have my hose connected to the tap (like the one in the picture above) with a jubilee clip. Trouble is that when builders etc. came and wanted some water they just disconnect it, and it never went back on as leak-free, so now I have a short piece of hose attached to tap, and that ends with a push-fit hose connector, so if anyone wants the tap direct its easy enough to just remove the hose at the push-fit connector.
I tried the Hoselock style brass connectors, but they (or at least the ones I bought) had plastic inserts for the "teeth" that grip the hose, and after a year or so of being outside they became brittle and failed.
I now only use Geka hose connectors. They have a rubber ring inside them, and the more the pressure increases they tighter they become. However, it is not possible to "open" them when the hose is under pressure (so Hoselock type is better in that sense). A possible other benefit of Geka is that all hose diameters are interchangeable - i.e. the connectors are the same size, regardless of the size of the barbed end that connects to hose (i have 3/4" hose for long runs as pressure is maintained better), and they are single gender and only a couple of quid each (solid metal, not plastic), so no need to buy both two females and a male-to-male just to connect two hoses together
There are also screw-thread Geka tap-fittings, which then gets a nice water-tight seal
