  • Small tomatoes n peppers

    Hi,

I tried growing tomatoes before but they just seem to grow massively. I don't have anywhere sheltered from the wind. I've heard about picking them out to reduce growth, so will try that this year.

But I think I'm going to try some dwarf types this year so they can stay on the windowsill, which get a lot of sun in the summer. So I'm looking for good tasting and small tomato and chilli varieties, which should I try?

    Thanks,
    Luke

By small, do you mean cherry tomatoes? The mini ones you get in the supermarket? Sungold is v.popular, but I prefer Golden Gem.

I don't know if you'd get much success on a windowsill, tbh. They don't really give enough lux (light). Can you put a £10 blowaway up outside to shelter them?

Micro tom or tiny toms I have grown on windowsills in 5 inch pots with great success

I have also grown minibel peppers in these pots with around 5 peppers on the plants

Apache chillies are bushy prolific plants grown in the same pots but fruit and fruit and fruit some more with a feed

All above I have grown on window sills before I had a greenhouse

The dwarf verities are ideal for window sills and you do get a lot of produce this is what I did before the allotment and a greenhouse

I had a blow away, it did into the next garden. No matter what I tried to weigh it down with. The garden has nothing to protect it.

The window sills I'm talking about get all the sun from morning to mid afternoon in the summer, it's hot!

Starting them off is easy, it's keeping them going I'm struggling with but would like something in a small pot really.

              Ta,

They do well for me, not the tastiest but you can crop 10-15 kilos from a hanging basket

Seeds of Distinction do two small windowsill tomatoes called Sweet 'n' Neat in red and yellow, not tried them though. They look pretty small and cute
