need some help with patio measurements

Hi guys,

Im looking to get a patio fitted in sept and trying to sort out how many patio slabs I need BUT Im not the best with maths and come up with 3 different answers haha.

Was wondering if someone who is good with maths or lays patios can help me out with some measurements.

My patio is 5461mm by 5537.2mm
the paving slabs are 450mm by 450mm

How many will I need?

Off the top of my head I would say 34 (allowing 4 for awkward bits, cuts and breakages)

Um I think you may need a few more if your measurements are correct, 4390 - I make it nearer 149

Roughly 30 square metres, to cover.

B&Q calculator says 151 450mmsq slabs which seems about right

Working it out on the back of a fag packet (as I used to do on the farm) I get it to 149! but I would buy a few extra they are always handy if you don't use them. Don't know what I did wrong on the B&Q calculator? Sorry

I think you mistook 30 sq mts for 30 slabs and added on 4 for breakage etc.
Its a simple mistaka to maka

5461 divided by 450 = 12 and a bit slabs wide
5537 divided by 450 = 12 and a bit slabs long
So that's a patio of 12 by 12 =144.
There would be a gap of 6.1 cm on the shorter side and 13.2 cm on the longer side. So if you can be bothered to cut up slabs to fill the gaps, you might need a few extra.
(Had to be extra careful typing slabs as I keep missing the b and putting a g)

Have you definitely got your measurements right? To measure to millimetre accuracy, let alone .2 of a mm is very difficult and the calc becomes irrelevant if the measurements are wrong. Not meaning to criticise but I have to rely on surveys at work a lot and measurements which look like they've been done to this level of accuracy often hide errors.
