Hi all,

A belated merry christmas and a eager happy new year...

I was given a dozen scaffold boards and i used these to frame a section of my allotment. (I segment my plot in a number of strips for easy management)

Annoyingly the boards make the segment look really tidy and now my other segments don't look as good.

As scaffold boards work out pricey does anyone have any good suggestions on what i could use?

not sure where you are but you could try free cycle in your area for more boards - ebay can have also have second hand boards at a reasonable price

Have you tried your local reclaimers yard? You can get some bargains if you look around.

Failing that whenever you see a skip, go check it out. You'll be surprised what you'll find in them.

Thanks for the replies and apologies for my delayed response. I'll give the tips above a go.

Failing getting wood cheap enough, has anyone got any suggestions for alternative materials to use?

I managed to luck out and got a load of unneeded decking boards of ebay. All the boards i needed for £1

Hi its amazing wha you can get for nothing if you are not so fussy about what you edge your beds with or establishing paths.

i have used many types of materials on my plot and still look for a different view always

i have used fencing boards, scaffold battens, sawn logs, brick on edge, flagging on edge, pallets and have paid for nothing as it is amazing what work is ongoing in the area and estates i live in. in many cases people cannot wait to get their rubbish and your gold off their drives so its a win both ways.

i dont see the point of taking any thing to the plot if i could not use it as it is a shame when you see hoards of materials becoming unsightly across the allotment patch when the reason for the allotment is for actually growing not hoarding lifes belongings happy gardening
