New compost bins

I've just ordered a couple of large compost bins through a deal with the local council where I buy one and get another one half price. I'm going to put them where I have an old homemade bin built from old doors. What I plan on doing is digging out about a foot of soil from beneath the old bins and mixing that soil in with my normal beds and then I'm going to replace that soil with a new batch from the beds and then put the new bins on top of it. The idea behind this is that the soil beneath the bins will be full of nutrients from being beneath the bins. When it's time to harvest the compost out of the new bins I'll do the same again.

Ok what you doing but next year put the compost bin in a bed and every time change position so the compost will be there ready to use.

I could do that I suppose but to be honest I'm happier with them in their own designated area. I'll have 4 300 litre ones together eventually and I'll harvest the first one as the last one finishes. Don't like using the doors at the bott. I'm happier harvesting the lot all in one go from one bin.

If you have ordered through your council/ get composting - drop them an e-mail for a refund as their prices are more expensive than even greener who they are in partnership with.
