when planning a garden give long consideration to where the washing line will go unfortunately in my case it has to go across the lawn and this morning was a typical example of many washing line battles the sun is shining the breeze is blowing so first thing i do on my day off edge the lawn and cut the grass. edge done i returned to the shed for the mower my back was only turned for a second and it happened in a flash when i re-emerged the washing line was full with sheets and towels great thinks the other half the sun is shining the breeze is blowing a perfect morning for drying the washing my heart sank the battle was on mower started first line cut second cut then slapped by a towel then hit by the clothes prop then came the king size sheet immediately wrapping me up like a fly in a spider web with the wife looking out of the window laughing which does not help at all and me turning into a Tasmanian devil spinning around and around i am now looking at getting high posts with a pulley system to raise said washing high up out of the way the wife is just looking for a strong post to hang me from the battle of the garden space continues

Yup - my whirly line is neatly placed at the edge of the deck so I can get to it on solid ground. I constantly have to unhook washing from the climbing rose on the edge of the deck ...Le Sarramea https://jgsgardening.blogspot.com/

I've had a retractable washing line for years , one end screwed into the fence and the other end onto the shed. Best thing I ever bought. No more ugly whirlies in the middle of the lawn . Mind you , the sight of my husband spinning around wrapped in bed sheets would be priceless
