  • Best way to level a bit of ground.

    Hi all,

I'm in the process of turning a patch of garden into a play area for our little one. One thing I need to do is build up an area by the fence, which will then be covered by membrane and then rubber chippings.

I was thinking of just getting a tonne of topsoil and using that to build it up. I know I'd have to screen off the fence to stop it rotting, but as we'll be covering it up it doesn't need to be expensive or high quality. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of other things I could use, but bearing in mind it's going to be a play area, so hardcore or rubble probably Wong be suitable.

I have no way of picking up some soil that people are often giving away.

    Thanks,

    Dom

Phone the council and ask where they get the soft-ish rubbery stuff they use at public play areas. If it is good enough for them when scared of compensation claims it should be good enough for your sprog(s).

    Cheers, Tony.

Maybe cement the play equipment in first before you lay membrane & extra topsoil etc?

        Hi,

I don't think I explained myself very well. I'm not looking for something to lay the equipment on, I've got that sorted already, it's just to build up a small area that dips down by the fence. Topsoil is the obvious solution, but I don't need good stuff.

I looked into that rubber tile stuff and it's ridiculous. About £35 per square metre!

Shave a bit off the top over the play area and fill in the dip with that? possiblly a pic would help. How much do you need?
