  • Water butt lids.

I recently aquired some old plastic barrels to use as water butts at my lottie. I cut the tops off with a jigsaw intending to use them as lids. Unfortunately they kept falling into the butts so I screwed four pieces of wood to the lids and that stops them falling in.

    Excellent! Well done!

We should always keep water butts fully covered. It stops all manner of creatures from falling in and meeting a horrible end ....

And it helps keep the water fresh and clean, preventing algae build-up.
Pain is still pain, suffering is still suffering, regardless of whoever, or whatever, is the victim.
    Everything is worthy of kindness.

Exactly K of A. I found a frog swimming in one of my older butts the other day. God knows how it managed to climb into it, but it did lol.

Well done on the quick thinking If you get anymore cut under the rim and flip the lid it works a treat (although it does collect a smidge of water on the top)

Yeah I thought about cutting below the rim but I decided against it so there's a slightly stronger top to the barrels, plus it gives them another inch or so. It probably didn't matter but it seemed like a good idea at the time lol. I don't think I'll be getting any more though. Six is probably more than enough.
