Using barbed or razor wire on private land, any advice?

So after thinking about the kids and god knows who that has come into my garden over the years and stolen items (most I would of lent out if they had asked) I've decided to get some razor wire put on the bit of fence they are jumping over.

I rang 101 just now, they said its not against the law to use it on your land but it is advisable not to as if anyone hurts themselves they can take you to a civil court, but it is advisable if you are going to use it to put up signs saying you are using it.. I also phoned cit advice which was no use.

The fence it will be on is 6 foot and it will be on my side of the property so no one can hurt themselves unless they jump or reach over. I cant put it on the other side as its a public foot path. I am still going to plant some thorny bushes at the bottom and once they are at the fence height Ill prob take the wire down.

Anyone use it in their garden?

I have, but it is a bit different in my situation.However, I will say only run a single line of it - I remember looking at something and reading there are a lot of deer issues where they get their hooves caught when there are two lines running across. So it someone still tries to get over, at 6ft high and their foot slips - well it is not going to be pretty short or long term for either party

Isn't there a "paint" for fences - sticky, non-grip or summat?
No way would I use razor wire in a garden. Too easy to forget its there. What about birds and cats?

I think the paint is the way to go.

I have actually got cctv up, so has next door... Although no warning of this.
I might try the paint when I have calmed down a bit. I hate anything like this, I work hard for my stuff and for people to come into my garden and take it just because they want to really riles me. If I catch them I will be bringing out the "problem solver" haha.

they can read so after that they will damage clothes and get a B*******ing off the parents
thats the way i would go.

If you go the razor wire way you could lose out.

i used carpet strips on the inside of the fence so if they reached over they would know about it ( AND THEY DID)
BUT ONLY ONCE they did not come back

I once had a garden that backed onto a cemetary & I also put wooden carpet strips on top of the gate.
