Seep Hose?

I have acquired about 60ft of this type of hose. It has a large bore - about one and a half inches across so I thought that it might be useful for my beans and pumpkins etc but.......

do I put the hose around the roots of my plants or more towards the edge of the pots?

How deep should it go or should it be kept on the surface of the soil?

Is it worth using?

In hot weather I think it evaporates as fast as it seeps, so just underground (2 or three inches)would prevent this.I would place it maybe 6 inches away from the plant to encourage root growth.

Have I understood you correctly? Are you planning on not having a permanent water source connected to the pipe and simply using it to distribute the water from your watering can? Never heard of that being done (always a first though ) and would have thought it would be very time consuming and difficult. I use soaker hose to gradually (over an hour or two) distribute from a tank (in my case water butts) into the tunnel / greenhouse borders. Wouldn't want to be stood there for that long with a watering can. You can connect direct to a tap but need a pressure reducer for that. Sorry if I've misunderstood.

The soaker hose I've seen and used is collapsible so wouldn't be suited to underground use. It also wouldn't sustain mains pressure without becoming a sprinkler system. Can't see the point in joining any soaker to a watering can as has been mentioned you would be standing all day with it!
Water butt with tap would be ok as long as pots/beds were below it and you had a means of re-filling the butt.

The stuff I have is solid but porous and buries easily but I know the stuff you mean too.

Depending how much water you want to use in one go, get a builders bucket, attach a butt tap, fill it with your watering can & hang/stand the bucket of water up on something that will take the weight.

My soaker hose is rigid and can be buried. You need to abandon the watering can idea in my opinion. Any container at the start of the run will do, a 25 litre drum for instance, the seepage is very slow and needs a long time to begin. Your plants just wont get enough water if you just fill it daily, you will get a couple of litres in, then it will be full and take ages to go down.
