Shredder/chipper any recommendations

I'm thinking I want, but probably don't need a shredder/ chipper. All it will be used for is cabbage, Brussels sprout, and other thick stalks that go on the compost heap.
Anyone got any recommendations for which ones I should be looking at?

Bosch AXT 2200 Rapid Shredder. Would do a brilliant job on those stalks.

Seriously, a lump hammer used to split the stems will get you where you need to be as that should allow them to compost down. If not, hoik them out when you empty the heap and chuck them in at the bottom of the next heap.

Brassica stems are very wet internally and cutter blades will quickly rust up possibly seizing the machine and causing the motor to burn out.

I was wondering if a robust set of loppers would do the job just as well. Cheaper, take up less space, won't get clogged up.

I think I just wanted a new toy for my garden.
So which loppers?

Q&B's cheapest should do the trick. Spend a bit more though if you plan doing some serious lopping

Shredders do take up space.
We got one a few years ago ( I've it was my burpday pressie) .
2 main types...those which shred hard wood , and those which shred green stuff ( and ones which will do both )
Then comes the diameter of whatever you want to shred.

Mine is a top end Bosch and I really like the quality ...but even that doesn't shred finely, more into small chunks.

Yep...great to 'play' with.....but....
I agree with the others, if you only have a small amount to shred, save your money and space.

I could do with a decent set. They would be used for real lopper work as well. The set I've got are a bit bendy! Would you go with extending handles or not?

Yep as AP says, beat the 'bejeezers' out of the stalks with a lump hammers is the way to go

Loppers, PowerGear® Anvil Lopper-70 cm (27 in) / Yard and Garden / Products | Fiskars Canada .. they are brilliant (a little on the expensive side though) bit of kit, don't dismiss them because they are largely made out of ... plastic ... they really do all that is claimed by the makers, Mrs.BB loves using them not only for how easy they make the job, but also for the fact that they are very light in weight.

Well I know what I'm buying myself on my next trip to Rhyl! Our nearest bq is Glasgow I think. Not traveling all that way for loppers. So I'll go all the way to Rhyl instead!!!! Be interesting bringing them home on the train, they won't fit in my bag. Wonder if there could be classed as an offensive weapon.
