Mirrors in the garden, anyone got any?

Ive got two large mirrors going begging from a old wardrobe. I would like to put them in the garden somewhere but need some ideas..

Could I put them on a wall that gets all the sun to refect into shade to brighten that up?

Anyone got any in their garden and what should i avoid?

I always worry about birds flying in to mirrors in the garden, so anywhere in a popular flight path is one to avoid. I'm assuming they are ordinary flat mirrors, as we've had a fire in our close caused by the sun shining on a mirrored sphere and setting fire to a fence. A flat mirror wouldn't have the same effect. Sorry two don'ts rather that helpful dos!

I have a couple of (small) gothic shaped mirrors in my garden.
Plan to get some bigger ones though, my mum has put a really large mirror in her TINY garden. She has let trailing plants obscure the edges and it makes the space appear literally twice the size.

A word of warning though...
I cannot count the times I have caught sight of my reflection, a flash of movement in my peripheral vision, thought it was an interloper and frightened meself senseless....usually (I confess) when I have a large glass of vino in my hand to splas all over me when I jump out of my skin!

In the 5 years I have been her I havent really seen many birds in my garden :/

I hope to change that this year as I have planted some berry shrubs for them. Although the fat balls go when I throw them on the grass but I wonder if thats ths rats haa

I always liked the idea of building a trellis with some mirrors and some big holes - but as yet it's still a pipe dream!

I stopped putting out fat balls because the squirrels took them within the day - I still feed the birds tho

I have a brick wall that I always fancied putting a mirror like this on



but like Wendy, I worry that the birds would fly into it. They mistake the patio window as garden sometimes when the light makes the garden reflect in it.

I dont even get squirrels :/ and I live right on the back of herrington country park!

I see them out and bout up the road but I never get visitors, mind you I would be happy with a frog or a headgehog. I wonder if its because I live 1 off a busy road?

Put them in the carrot bed. That way the carrot fly will think there is an interloper and bash itself to death trying to get at its reflection . Old wife's tale I know but it always makes me chuckle

I've got a mirror in my garden, only ever seen a bird fly towards it once as if it was a flight path, but when it saw it was going to hit another bird (its' reflection) it stopped mid-air and flew away, even though it was flying at some speed.

I think the problem is with glass, when they can't see anything that they're going to hit and they think it's just an opening.

We have lots of birds and pigeons and hawks.

A hawk plus pigeon flew into our garage doors about 10 years ago - both survived. (Hawk let go of pigeon which flew away. Hawk looked very annoyed)

So no mirrors here.. the bigger birds (jays, crows, mapgpies etc) -- would break one...
