Keeping nails/ hands looking decent

I used to be really envious of my friend's perfect nails until I realised she doesn't do anything and spent money that I would see as an extravagance on professional manicures. I enjoy messing too much to make any of that worthwhile. I do wear gloves mainly but there is a level of grime that never seems to be able to be removed but would rather that than give up my hobby. That said, never really been a makeup and polish kind of girl and wouldn't want coloured nails anyway, did it once and felt a bit stupid and out of place

Since I really don't like bulky gloves, I use some that are made from thin cotton-like material that is coated on the palms/fingertips making that part waterproof. Search for "Nitrile coated gloves" to see an example, they are flexible but there is more protection to your hands and they last longer than the pure nitrile/latex type gloves - plus they're not sweaty. Of course I still get dirty battered nails but that is from forgetting to wear the gloves.

I use old leather gloves, not just to protect my hands as I have such terrible nails to start with but we have so many cats here you just never know what's in the soil!

I have a really bad dry skin problem and never remember to wear my gloves so to get some moisture back into my skin I wear washing up gloves with a ton of aqueous cream and then wash up in water that is scalding hot - it works for me.

I use 'NYLON PU COATED SAFETY WORK GLOVES' (24 pairs for a tenner from fleabay). They're not water proof but keep my hands reasonably clean.

I use the same gloves as potstubsdustbins when doing any digging, weeding or adding manure. I don't wear gloves for sowing seeds.

If I was sensible, I'd use barrier cream too.

But as I'm not, I use foot moisturiser. Our local supermarket sells one that's dead cheap, doesn't leave a greasy film and is really effective.

For really dry skin on my hands I use a smidge of Flexitol last thing at night. Better than any hand cream for me.

don't wear gloves except when removing nettles, moisturiser consists of a bag of chips on the way home remembering to eat with both hands to get good coverage.
Incidentally cheddar cheese removes ground in engine oil from the creases in your fingers .I discovered this after a midnight snack midway through rebuilding my old mower. doesn't help the flavour of the cheese though
