I have gel nails as chemo damaged my nails but they are rebust and strong and I use gloves. Got them from Amazon - Briers Lady Gardener Gloves and they fit well and last a long time worth the money. I have a scrubbing brush at the sink and hand cream. My neighbour cannot understand how I always have good nails. And yes I do go digging and play in the soil.
I love being daring with colour and at the moment the colour is like marmite, some love it and some hate it (specially hubby!)

A good nail brush is essential, a bit of sugar or salt (ouch if you have cuts) in your hand wash for ground in bits. Any rich hand cream - I keep it everywhere, all sinks, both cars, by my bed, in bags, pockets etc - whatever I have. Use gloves for heavy digging, pruning, mowing etc to protect against calluses. Factor 50 on backs of your hands & face even in winter. Finally, an acceptance that your hands may never be the same again, but it's a price worth paying.

Oh, & nail varnish covers up grubby nails really well!
        Another happy Nutter...

A handful of porridge oats gets all kinds of dirt off and without releasing those awful little beads into the environment. I also love Liz Earle Hand Repair cream but my current favourite is Hand and Body Slave in Rosemary and Geranium by 'The Black Sheep Company'. I'm getting married next year and need to have half decent hands for the day oh and I double up on gloves especially as a lot on my plot has thorns or stingers.
