Making wooden planters using deck boards

I have just had a new deck and have some left over as well as other wood from fence posts etc. I had considered donating it to a local place that makes things out of, e.g. pallets, but I think, instead, I would like to try to make (or have made for me) some wooden planters or raised beds. I think I read somewhere that you have to be careful what wood you use if planting edible plants so would stick with flowers or something.

So, I am asking, how feasible would it be. I have the option of asking a joiner to do it for me and, having looked at the cost of such planters, it might be a good option.

Have you thought about having a go at making them yourself minuet?
They may not look as professional ...but you'll have a great sense of achievement!

I've got some left over wood from my little shed roof & was thinking the same thing,I might use it to make thin raised bed edging on top of my little shed roof,a bit of pond liner,co co coir instead of compost because of weight,it might be a good idea,I'm still thinking about it & any flaws.
