  • Awesome Ideas Of 2017!

On the back of "Snadgers Shed Show" I thought it may be a good idea for all you budding inventors to come up with something new next year, it could be some kind of tool to help you garden or just a simple box to arrange your seeds............The sky's the limit so get ya thinkin' caps on & see what you can come up with...........maybe we can have a poll in June/July..........I have a few ideas but whether they come to fruition is another matter.................What do you reckon?

So I have screwed a palate to the side of my shed to host canes and other sticks. Does that count?!

Sounds a great idea BM. I will be following and nagging hubby to copy anything he's capable of.

OK here is one I produced earlier its a module seedling extraction tool or Jig

                        Making

                        1) Take one bed slat offcut from another project.
                        2) Put elastic band on drill the same dia as the dowel at half the thickness of the wood as a stop.
                        3) Mark the holes at the bottom of the seed modules along the wood.
                        4) Drill the holes as vertical as possible as I only have a hand drill.
                        5) Cut the dowels to a length that is half the depth of the module plus the depth of the holes in the base.
                        6) Wood glue the dowels in place.

                        Using

                        1) Move the single strip of module up to the top of the dowels.
                        2) offer the tray on top of the strip of module on the jig.
                        3) lower the tray.
                        4) The seedling plugs are pushed out of the module from the bottom.

I got inventive with the a couple of flower buckets and the soldering iron. The top has been made into a framework to support fleece or debris netting. Holes have been melted at 1/4 points around both rims so that they can be cable tied together. There is a mark burnt on the rims of both buckets so that the holes line up.

Ideal for warding off carrot or onion flies, and keeping the foxes and squirrels at bay.

                            Vertical Garden Flower Bucket

I acquired a few more flower buckets from the local supermarket and decided to have a go at making them into vertical growing pots. So 60mm lines drawn at quarter points around the circumference at 75mm and 175mm from the bottom and then between them at 125mm up from the bottom.

Soldering Iron to melt a hole at each end of each line, then again backwards and forwards until all the slots were formed. I tried a small glass coke bottle, but a broom handle with the end cut off at an angle worked best in forming the shaped areas with a heat gun.

I have cut some small bore plastic pipe to assist in watering, there are drain holes formed about 15-20mm up from the bottom again at quarter points. I will fill the bottom 20mm with a mixture of stone, sand, Pop bottle caps water retaining gel and compost.

I like the idea of this BM, most of my ideas aren't realistic or doable so they stay inside my head.
                              Must try harder.
