Slatted Bench renovation advice.

My ex-Wilkinsons 8 slatted bench needs some serious work done.

The metal ends are fine, I've often painted them with metal paint when I've painted the wooden slats.

But the wooden slats need replacing, I'd like to paint the slats with the remainder of my Cuprinol sage coloured paint, but if I do that have I got to buy untreated slats only..?

The treated wood I've found for sale is very rough, the untreated wood is smooth, but it looks unlikely to last a season outdoors.

Basically I don't have a clue where to start...

Poking about online, I've discovered hardwoods slats for sale, is that my best bet and is it worth the investment ..?

There is treated planed carcassing timber. Decking is finished and treated.

I've had the same problem with the same bench & personally I would throw it and buy a new one. I replaced some slats with sanded pallet wood but when you factor in the labour, the broken bolts & the cost of new timber it's easier just to buy a new one. Shorten the one you have to make a single seater.

We threw out ours last year, bought a replacement and it never made it out of hubby's new shed.
He has got it cosy in there ....

The three back rest slats look OK. I'd throw away the worst one of the seat slats, swap three with the back slats and do without the fifth slat at the very front, so the seat is just four slats wide.
