Ditto to having the right safety gear before you even start it up... My dad once saw someone lose their head using a chainsaw, i've nearly taken my foot off and you must have eyes in the back of your head too for trip hazards and other people. Whenever i'm cutting, the machine is off for about 80% of the time... Don't use it on your own preferably too.

Steel boots with good tread, proper chainsaw trousers (don't go for the chaps), gloves, ear defenders as an absolute minimum and preferably a helmet with face guard.

Which Stihl did you get? I've got a Stihl 181c-be for general use and a chainsaw attachment for a long pole hedgetrimmer so i can cut stuff that's out of range. Don't use a chainsaw above your head!

Nicos, what is this 'battlefield powder' whereof you speak? We're about 50 minutes from our nearest A&E, not including the time it would take me to reverse through Mr Snoop's junk pile. Nerve-wracking enough even without injuries to worry about.

                This is something similar...
Cellox Haemostat Granules | Saves Lives Fast
                We have the larger sachet.
Not cheap, but if it saves a life......
They have a use by date too.

On a quick look it seems you need to buy a box of those.

When OH gets back I'll have a look at his......it's always in his work vehicle
I bought 2 , one for him and the other for our SIL.

The good thing is that you can open the sachet with your teeth!
