I've got a stinky butt!

I thought that would get some peoples attention......................

Our water butt smells......alot.

We don't have a drain in our garden so to empty it out and give it a clean would mean filling the watering can and then doing a 50m walk to the nearest drain on the road.

I am not that fit (and possibly never have been) so I was wondering if I could use some of the water purifying tablets to clean it up a bit?

Ant other suggestions gratefully recieved.

i'm no expert but I wouldn't think it a problem, after all they are used all over to 'clean' drinking water'

Have you got it on a downpipe with a diverter to capture the rain? If so it is sitting on a drain.
Alternatively, stop the source from filling and drain off a bit each day and leave to soak away.
Or get/borrow a cheap hose and attach to the tap or syphon (careful what you swallow) into the drain.
Remeber more water that that falls in a general shower so the ground can take quite a bit generally.

You'd have to do some research to make sure it would be ok to use on your veggies after, but I imagine it would be fine after a small break. Even if you empty it, you'll need to clean it - may as well do it the easiest way

Is there a lid on your butt, Lumpy? Just wondering whether leaves are in there and have rotted - leaf tea
Potassium permanganate can be used to purify water - we used to use it in a closed system water feature. However, I don't know anything about the quantity or effect on plants. I think its safe for fish.

There is a tight fitting lid and I think it is just because it has not been used over the winter - boy does it pong.

It says in reviews on amazon about using in fish tanks to keep the water clear,I wonder if it would work in BM's fish tv,if it was put inside the tank & sealed in so it was just working on that area of glass? It says you can use it in ponds. Theres a few bad reviews which contradict the good reviews but with 70 good & 14 bad reviews,I'd believe the 70. I wonder if anyone has tried it who's reading this

We have no where to shove the hose as all of our downpipes go straight into the ground and do now have the normal grating thingy.

I think most of our drainage is achieved through soak aways.

So discharge it on the grass at least 5m away from the house and let it soak away naturally
