DIY irrigation from hosepipe

Hi

Suppose it should be straight forward, someone must've done it.... basically the idea is to get an old hosepipe, run it over all beds and pots needed to water and secure. Simply drill holes in the pipe where needed. Either attatch sprinkler to the far end or simply block off.
Can either attach the other end to the tap so just turn on to water, or connect to a water container.

Sounds too simple. Any thoughts? I'd obviously want water to drain thru all drilled holes so don't know if there's a particular size hole that works best etc

Pressure from a mains tap should do it but doubt there would be enough from a container as you are relying on gravity.

I use a micro irrigation kit (that I bought many years ago) from a waterbutt and it works OK (ish). The main problem is that the system bungs up with debris and so has to be cleaned out every couple of months or so.

Just drilling holes on a hosepipe would possibly mean that the water wouldn't reach the end (depending on the size of the holes) so drippers with a suitable flow rate (mine reckon they are 1 - 4L per hour)mean that there's enough pressure in the butt to flow all the way through. It takes 2-4 days to empty the butt in the summer.

Any holes drilled into the hose pipe means that you will need to fit a drip to it, otherwise it`ll empty damn quick! BM`s suggestions would suit best IMHO.
Feeding direct from your tap will give good , regulated pressure, but Chlorinated water! I prefer rain water, but that`s me.

I have a 210ltr water butt fed by rainwater and a pump in the stream. Hose with holes drilled in runs onto the plot and I just move it around a bit to water various areas. Not too exact but ultimately I just want to get some water onto the plot.
