Best way to cut oil drum in half?

Hi

For my GH I've picked up 2 drums which I want to cut in half length ways for planters. I've tried my jigsaw which wasn't great (naff jigsaw and/or blade) so looking for alternative ways?
It didn't have oil in it (food grade) so no risk of explosion etc

What blade did you have in the jigsaw - wood, plastic or metal cutting?

I've used a reciprocating saw to cut through metal sheeting with metal cutting blade and it went through pretty good.

You could get a metal cutting disk on a grinder/still saw if you have one of those already but check your jigsaw blade first as it's cheaper to get one pack of blades than a complete new cutting setup.

What power if the jigsaw?

Can't remember it's only a cheapy thing. Cut about 2 foot then the blade just slips out of its housing.

Make sure you have a metal cutting blade in it, concrete is totally different

Deffo an angle grinder with a 4" or 4.5" thin metal cutting blade. Watch you don't set yourself on fire with the sparks though.(been there, got the scars to prove it) Heavy duty tin snips would also work, but thats a lot harder work.
As mentioned earlier a stihl saw with a thin metal cutting blade would make light work of it.
Preferred method would be to take it to an engineering shop and slip one of the guys a four pack of beer/lager to do it for you. Half barrels are often used on a frame work for barbeques!

Did one last year for a barbecue. Angle grinder is definitely the way to go.

grinder took minutes to do both drums but the little that the jigsaw did was a much nicer cut. not that you'll see it, ill stick some hosepipe or radiator pipe foam over it so i dont butcher myself on it

Use the grinder to smooth off the sharp bits!
