  • thermostatic control and STC 1000

I have an old Dimplex anti frost heater. It has a thermostat.
I also have a temperature logging system.
It seems the thermostat doesn't work very well on the Dimplex.
Even if I turn it right down it still seems to keep coming on and off.

So I acquired a STC 1000 (search the web). I turned the Dimplex up to max (so it wouldn't go off) and plugged it into my STC 1000. I set the STC 1000 to 4 deg C and it all works perfectly. Only comes on when needed.

To use the STC 1000 you need to be a bit of an electrical buff.
They seemed to be used a lot by the homebrew fraternity.

    Hope this is of interest.

For Technophobic peoples, there is the ITC 308 - Plug and play - 2 x relays so you can also add a fan to cooling in the summer.

I have use the Inkbird ITC-308 to control heating in the greenhouse when at windy, oops sorry when living in Caithness. Worker really well with the electric fan heater set it 1kW. If heater set to 2kW would sometimes trip.
Sometimes you just have to scratch that itch and get dirt under your finger nails.

Don't forget to be cautious as I don't think any of these are water resistant.
If you water them it could be disastrous.
My greenhouse is fed from the house via an earth leakage circuit breaker.
I think you stand a better chance with on of these in place.
