    Hi

are green poly tunnels any good to grow strawberries and tomatoes between April and October or should we go for clear ones?

    Thanks

Yes you can grow strawbs and toms in them, but they don't call them Blowaways for nothing - so be careful where you site it and fix it down.

Hello & welcome to the forum freeflow,I had a clear cover on my blowaway that I was hardening up my tomato plants in,the plants weren’t young (they were ready to plant if the weather had allowed) but the sun was so intense one day, some of the tomato leaves got sunscald so I’d go with a green cover. The green covers give a bit of protection I find, the clear plastic covers I wouldn’t use again but if you do have clear you can get shade cloth?

I think as long as you are realistic and accept a few facts

1.) They are cheap for a reason
2.) They don't last well in bad weather
3.) They will need some additional work to make them solid

Then they are fabulous, I will be getting one and will be strengthening the frame and making sure its fixed down well with ground stakes, I will then ensure the cover is on it through summer only and then autumn I will store the cover with a hope to get a second season out of it.. although at the price I will be happy to get one long summer.. they are cheap and cheerful so if the frame doesnt last the winter I wont be heartbroken.. got to be worth a punt for the money

I have one. It was well weighted down, but then the seems burs and guide ropes came off.

Not very good for windy open spaces.

When it was nice, it was very nice in it... so if you have shelter and sun, will work a treat.

Hi Freeflow and welcome to the Vine. We have a 3m x 6m budget type tunnel and produced shed loads of toms throughout the summer. Ours stood up to storm Doris with cover on but it's currently in the garage for winter.
