  • IBC Water Catchment & Storage Setup Complete

I've just finally finished setting up my IBC water tank storage setup, running guttering around my garage and shed feeding directly into a 1000l IBC tank, hopefully this should be enough to keep me going and avoid tap water as much as possible, here's the setup for anyone interested:

just two small points you could do with a fillter or a net to stop the leaves that will fall from those trees and what going to happen to the water when the ibc is full ? looking good though and not cost a lot to set up well done ! atb Dal.

Thanks, I've already wrapped some spare fleece around the top hole to stop any rubbish falling into the tank for now until I make a more permanent bung. I highly doubt I'll get to the point it will be full and overflowing but if that does ever happen, I have a spare 200l blue container I could use with an overflow pipe from ibc to blue container, but as said I can't see that being much of an issue and would be a nice problem to have

Looks good! I'm thinking of doing something similar in my garden, although my garage has a sharp corner on the top (i.e. no overhang for the water to run off ) so I have to figure out how to attach the guttering first!

Are you planning on making the tank light tight to prevent algae? I have no idea if it's really a problem or not but a lot of the "how to" guides I've read recently seem to indicate it is

I did something similar on a smaller scale some years back, when the algae grew and the water went green I dropped a bag of live Daphnia in(bought from a local fish supplier) and they ate all the algae and my fish got some high protein grub too.

Just as a matter of interest did you do anything special to clean out your IBC's ? I bought two recently and they have some white gloopy residue in the bottom, which has a distinct gasoline type smell to it.

I've just left them for now, as I have several other things on, but I intend getting them set up for water storage by the Autumn.

I'm also on the look out for an IBC. There's plenty around my area but its just getting them back home.
