  • greenhouse glass replacement

I have bought another greenhouse from fleabay that has lost a lot of glass

think that there is enough to do the walls and door but not the roof so I am considering doing that in twinwall 4 mm polycarbonate

Has anyone got any thoughts or experience on doing this or should I buy more glass ?

    Hi BL,

I am afraid I have never tried polycarbonate- but did replace a glass pane last year when OH put his hand through the side of our greenhouse (no injuries as he was wearing his sturdiest pruning gloves at the time). We got glass fro local glass merchant - I probably shouldn’t give company names on the forum, but can send you a PM if you live in lancashire.
Which county are you in? There may be some folks here who could suggest suitable local outlets?

Polycarbonate is easy enough to use, as it is light and cuts/drills easily. I'd be tempted just to get large sheets for the roof and forget about trying to cut it in to panes though. If you do this don't forget to allow some space/slack around the fixing points, as it does expand when warmed up in the sunlight.

Polycarbonate is lighter and has more insulating power than glass, it is also obviously safer.

However it flexes in the wind so use a good silicon run in beads to bed it in (as you would use putty in a wooden frame). Screwfix No Nonsense General purpose is good and is UV resistant.
