  • Whats this tool called please :)

    Hi,

One of my fellow plot holders has lent me one of his pride and joy tools. I have promised to guard it with my life.

I think its fantastic It has broken up my concrete soil up in minutes

So I am wondering what is it actually called. I have looked on line and as you can see its labelled as a pointed hoe, very descriptive.

I see wolf-garten do a version of it. Is it any good? Or where I can buy one the same

    Thanks

I'd have a look round the local car-boot sales and farm auctions - as long as you can put a new handle on yourself you should be able to get an old one cheaply.

I use a v heavy duty English hoe, probably weighs about 3lb, ( not so pointy, bit like an adze) for the same sort of job - if its kept sharp and the ground is not too stony, it chews through most stuff OK

You might also look for a garden adze. Similar but without the point. Again good for 'heavy' hoe work, breaking soil if you can swing over your head, and making planting ditches or ridging up.

          This kind of thing.

No relationship with the seller, just a searched result.

Anyway I've got something similar and find it quite a useful hand tool.

The gardeners use these a lot here in France and they are very effective. I daren't use one though, I'm afraid I might swing it too high and chop the bottom half of my leg off!

Was in a hurry the day I posted link to the Ridging Hoe . These people manufacture a range of tools for export. They tend to be solid built - I got the Fork and Digging hoe pack and a double headed hoe - and was impressed. They are not the cheapest and like ESBKelvin have no link to the company.
