  • Brussel Sprouts

I planted out the purple variety of brussel sprouts and they have grown up lovely.....but...

... the leaves are very holey - eaten by something! I have twigs galore around them to stop the pigeons, and had been using slug bate. Now the other day we went to a garden and saw their brussel sprouts had sprouts on them already! I don't have any?

Is this normal, or has whatever been eating my leaves also managed to stop growth? They are still a healthy looking colour

Different varieties of Brussels Sprout mature at different times, so that is the most likely reason. You could be harvesting from early autumn well into late winter if you choose the right varieties.

So, I don't think there's anything to worry about - but keep checking them for pests. You may have caterpillars or flea beetle - they both make holes in the leaves.

Feed well and keep your fingers' crossed!
