Hi, I had sown (lots ) of bedfordshire chsmpion onion seeds into damp compost as seen on youtube and kept beside the shed window. It's now been 8 days on and nothing as of yet! Should I start again?
For example, at 41F, onions take 31 days to germinate. At 68F they take 5 days.
These are consistent temperatures over 24 hours, not a bit of sun through the window at midday and frosty overnight. You don't say what your shed is like but, if its anything like mine, its not very warm.
its pretty cold out atm , you might be better off bringing them inside (your house) to get the temp up to germinate them ,gl cheers
ps do you have them in a propergator ? or just a tray ?
No propagator I'm afraid, they are just chilling (literally in the shed) couple of wee white shoots starting to appear but in comparison to the peas/calabrese inside which have just took off! I might sow a few fresh onion seeds indoors as a back up!
If you have room indoors for a small plastic container , I use old takeawy box with lid, then chitting first seems to help alot. After 3 days had 5mm shoots on onions, which planted into a gutter in greenhouse.
