whats the secret?

is that quite common with cucumbers? All three of the seeds I planted have come up now with a pair of sturdy leaves on each. I want to grow them on in a growbag in the greenhouse, but might try one outside for a laugh. How big do the plants get? Mine are a mini cucumber variery, but that's mini fruit - not sure it applies to the plant.

Now I just have to stop the cucmbers dying when I pot them on The last three did.

I planted four seeds, two grew. I gave one away. If that dies I'm up a creak with out a paddle.
I better go and start talking to it to make sure it knows how special it really is.

planted 6 courgettes got 5 plants. Going to be snowed under later in the year. All plants now up the allotment and am keeping a close eye on the weather and a spare hand on the fleece. No special advice apart from the same advice as Alice. When it feels good do it! :-)

it seems to be common with my cucumbers . Last year I bought four English cucumber plants and managed to get one to survive. I then bought some lemon cucmber seeds and they seemed much easier, I kept three out of four. This year I'm only growing lemon ones but have lost three out of three. It may be that the greenhouse was still too cold or other grapes have suggested I put them straight into too big a pot. I have six new seedlings coming on well.

I grew some mini cucumbers last year Eskymo for my mum-in-law in her greenhouse & they grew about 2-3 ft high trained up a cane & produced some nice small cucumbers, think they may grow higher or trail further but she only had them in small pots. I tried one outdoors but I didn't get anywhere with it as it was eaten by slugs/snails about 3 days after I put it out! (My butternut squash seeds only took about 4 days to germinate in the heated propagator.)

For outdoor cucumbers try Marketmore. We grew these last year and got a great crop of big fat juicy cucumbers.

I'm trying Marketmore this year LJ , I grew some outdoor cucumbers a few years ago which were fantastic but unfortunately can't remember what variety they were.

I am cheesed off now. I have just gone into the greenhouse and my butternut squashes have gone..........bl**dy snails!!!!!!!!

My cucumbers squash ans sweetcorn have all germinated brilliantly. My tomatoes have been rubbish. I think it must be due to how you talk to them. Tomatoes must be particularly obtuse.

Tomatoes and cucs doiung great but butternut squash a disaster, wonder why?

Can't get any Butternut squash to germinate. I'll have to start again

I have one or two butternut up but am battling with slugs and snails eating everything they can get their knashers into! I know the good Lord put them on this earth for a reason - must be to teach me patience!

Strange this problem. I'm struggling with my courgettes this year, normally they are up lke weeds but this year they're not too good. I'm starting to wonder about the compost that I'm using as one or two things don't seem to be as good at the moment.

well my courgettes are coming up now, but they've all got deforemed leaves which is weird. The first two leaves that pop through the ground aren't normally so odly shaped. I'm waiting for the next set of leaves to appear and hopefully they will look OK otherwise I think I'll have a mutant crop on my hands.
