Quadgrow or similar

Hello All,

I feel I'm not going to be able to water daily due to work and family life so looking for GH systems. I dont have power or hose close by.

Does anyone have experience with Quadgrow or similar system.

I use something similar to the second one, but I drilled out the bottom holes bigger as the water flow was too slow, a lot of the water was evaporating before it got to the roots on the rare occasions we get the sun up here. I don't use them in grow bags though, I grow in the border soil, which I can give a good water before going away for a couple of days and I don't get split tomatoes because of them drying out.

I haven't used them myself to can't help.

I got around my watering problem when we go away for a few days by growing my toms straight into the GH boarder, with the cucumbers on a self watering mat. Both work well for me.

Hi ghexton, I bought two quadgrows for my greenhouse last summer. I had cordon tomatoes in one and tomatoes, a cucumber and a pepper in the other. I had a holiday watering kit for each quadgrow ie 25 litre additional reservoirs.

Keeping the plants watered was simple, and I had no blossom end rot. Last summer was decent in Edinburgh once May was past, not roasting like 2018 but fairly warm in bursts. My records show that I was topping up the big reservoir every 8 days, so fine for a week's holiday. Be easy to get a friend in to top up for you if you were away longer.

I had a duogrow too, no extra reservoir, with one pepper and one bush tomato. I refilled these at the same time as the quadgrow, and they clearly took up less water as they were smaller plants.

It's quite an outlay to start with, but I think they were well worth it for me, takes away the anxiety of finding your plants drooping. You only need to do that a couple of times and they are never the same.

When I was working I worked 12hr. shifts the greenhouse floor is concrete and watering was a bit of a problem, so I made a water trough with a wooden frame lined with polythene, wide enough to take a grow bag and deep enough to cover a building brick sitting on edge I placed a board on top 9f the bricks to keep the grow bags out the water I then pfilled the trough with water fitted wicks from the grow bags at least 2 per bag into the water trough then soaked the grow bags to start the capillary action and as long as there was water in the trough the bags were kept watered, the only time I added added any liquid to the bags was when I was feeding the plants

The Earthbox is quite popular with tomato growers in the US. They don't sell them in the UK but it doesn't look too hard to make something similar yourself.

i bit the bullet and went with quadgrow. ill keep you posted over summer.

One of my allotment neighbours had an "automatic" watering system. But I was his backup. On the occasions that something went wrong I would water and alert him. If you've got friendly neighbours maybe ask them to cast an eye over your greenhouse when they are around.

I use the chilli grow. Which is basically the same but the pots are a bit smaller and only 3 pots.
I’d get more because I love it. But it’s one of the many things and companies that try to s**** me on postage due to location.

hello I wonder if you can offer any adivce on the holiday watering kit...? Did you have any problems wtih it? Mine won't stop leaking in the middle of the tap connector. GS seem unable to diagnose the problem. They seemed to think I'd just not put it on the tap properly. I have it on both of the ktis I bought. If you have one of the older designs, though, this will prpobably make no sense to you.
Can;t go on holiday this (or any!) summer unless I sort this

I think we may have a different type as there is no tap. We've had minor issues with the ballcock needing tightened, then had to make sure the rubber seal at the connection taking the water from the bottom of the reservoir was on correctly, nothing we couldn't sort. Can you send a photo?

Perhaps GS could send you a photo of how the connection should be looking?

mine did this as soon as I put it together. They replaced the tap and the connector for me. They have great CS if you ask me. They even sent a couple of bits I lost over winter.

Hmm. Initally I had an email conversaion with someone who certianly tried to be helpful, but then they went silent when it transpired that their diagnosis was not the right one. They also seemed unable to explain where the O ring went. So willing, initially, but alas not really able. Subsequent emails sent from my home address and via the web site have been ignored. Possibly they have only one customer service person... Maybe he's gone on holiday.
I think the connector needs replacing. I ended up just buying something off amazon.
I just hope I don't have as much trouble setting up the water butt drip system for my raised beds...
