Which Book?

As Santa is requesting a list this year, it looks like the ideal opportunity to ask for a book on growing veg etc. and basic gardening techniques such as when and how to prune and cut my fruit bushes etc.

What books would you recommend for a complete beginner like me?

I have the Grown Your Own book by Carol Klein already. I'd really like something that shows me a step by step guide to pruning etc. Or a DVD that demonstrates what I have to do. Real basic stuff.

Any of the Hessayon Expert books - there's one on Fruit and one on Veg growing, or for a comprehensive guide n growing veg try Joy Larkom's book which is mentioned on numerous other threads - use the search facility - I would tell you the proper title but I've forgotten

Just as an aside this DVD is interesting. Allotment TV Series on DVD: Home : About The Allotment on DVD from Wildfire Productions allotments grow your own vegetables veg

Its a magazine style series originally shown on HTV west few years ago. Not an instructional DVD but very good viewing.

I have a lovely old(ish) book called Food from Your Garden - Reader's Digest. Copyright is 1977, but it includes growing, pruning advice plus recipes, preserving hints etc. I don't know if you can still buy in shops but you should be able to find it on Ebay or Amazon, or even your local library.

After Joy Larkom one of the better books for beginners that we have and still use everytime we try something different is this one:



Its got great pictures and is easy to understand and follow, a drawbacks is its out of print but amazon have lots of 2nd-hand copies.
