I'm also a relatively new gardener and have also become an addict - this is a great site - no matter what the question someone always knows the answers! And everyone is really friendly!

Well, I,m in the same boat, only the other way round. My OH is interested, but thinks if you just dig a few fork fulls of earth and then plant something, thats all ther is to gardening. We constantly have world war three as i just want him to stay away. So, Here i am.

Yep, about 6 miles from where I live or there about. Know Polesworth well as my gran use to live there so I spent load of time during scool hols over there

i think some of your replies went off the subject a bit but they are friendly just maaaaaadddddd.
Your pots sound good. I did tomatoes in double pots last year that is one on top of another, knock the base out of the top one and pile it with soil. I grew GYO round carrots in long window boxes and cucumbers in a large half barrel, lettuce in an old fish box (no fish). I guess you could try anything, just remember they will be hungry feeders, and even more so if they are the squash cucumber type plants, so use tomatorite and or seaweed feed and wormery jiuce every 2 weeks without fail and check every day if they are moist enough by pushing a finger into the soil if its damp two inches down its ok.

thanks! can I ask- did you grow your cucumbers outside or in a greenhouse? I fancied trying some but I only have a teeny greenhouse and wasn't sure if they were suited to outside?

My daughter grew toms,caugettes,aubergines,lettice,basil,chives,sweetpeppers all in pots last year in her postage stamp size garden. This year has purchased 2 pear minuettes, and3 apple minuettes plus dwarf peach,all can be grown in pots, oh and not to forget her fig! My grandson(nearly 3) keeps checking for fruit.He's a little fruit bat,and look out with cherry toms. He pinches them soon as red.Have to tell her about hanging basket growing to keep him from stuffing the lot.His sisters not interested in eating the veg yet,just in digging them up whilst you are trying to plant them(shes only 18 months old)
