What do you all use to support your peas? I seem to remember hearing of Pea sticks? Can anyone tell me what they are andwhere to obtain them?

I just thought they were used to poke people, but a quick search found this: Allotment Forestry bean poles and pea stick

It's odd that you mention this, I was only thinking of posting a question just minutes ago regarding how long the bamboo sticks last, and what people do to store them? Veird!

I use Sitka Spruce branches, because I have a pletiful supply and they are quite rough and spiky, perfect for the tendrils to climb up. I don't need any extra netting or twine of any description.

Cant you just use plain old bamboo canes? Saves Hazel the bother if nothing else .... I was planning to get some from the GC but maybe you lot know better?

Sue - the thing with peas is that they have relatively short tendrils and need more of a spread of support (hence netting is often used) rather than a single pole. Runner beans, you may have seen, use their main stem to climb, so a single pole is fine.

I have used bamboo canes and tied string horizontally between them, but it was a fiddle to make and take apart. I suggest some netlon-type net between a couple of posts.

Ohhh, Ive seen pea netting in the GC!!! Lesson number 2 for today! I grew peas last year but only very dwarf ones and I made them go up a bamboo wigwam thingymy - obviously 'real' ones need more help. I shall invest in some netting - thanks Cutecumber
