  • covering raised beds

    ive just made and filled 3 raised beds. they are filled with a mix of top soil and organic matter.is there any benefit to covering them with plastic. i have semi clear plastic would that be any good

    hindsight is a wonderful thing but foresight is a whole lot better

    Depends what you want to do but it's not usually a bad thing.

    clear plastic will warm the soil a bit (if there's some sun), but potentially could dry them out if there's too much (chance'd be a fine thing!!!). Covering may also stop too much nutrient leaching out, which is good. You are likely to get significant weed germination too, but the little blighters can be hoed off before sowing your veg.

    Semi-clear plastic won't make a lot of difference either way, I suspect.
