  • can you recommend a heated propogator?

    Hi

Are heated propogators a good thing to have?
Are they all quite similar? Do you put separate plant pots inside a large heater, or are they just like heated seed trays?

The seedlings will be planted on my lottie when ready.

    Many thanks...T

The best heated propogator is a free one, its a kitchen windowsill.

Have a look at NR Kays Tigerella. I got a fairly large one which takes three half size seed trays and six pots at a time all for £29.50 (three years ago!). I have found it very useful.

Make sure you get one with a thermostat on it. That way you can regulate the tempreture.

The ones with a thermostat are very expensive I think Bramble?

We've got a Sankey 300 - not too small, but how much stuff are you going to start off in it? We've had it over 6 years, but it was half price from a DIY (Focus I think) place.

I know some people swear by the thermostat ones but it does depend what you're growing and when. I have two simple ones which were cheap as chips and work great for me. You need to make sure that you don't leave stuff in it after it's germinated and it's too hot for some things but for me they're perfect and I didn't need to spend more. Some things, eg tomatoes I just set off in unheated propogators or like PW, just on the window ledge.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I bought a simple windowsill heated propagator ( Garland , I think) last summer, it has 3 separate growing trays with individual transparant lids and has no thermostat.
I have only use it the first time several days ago for chili seeds germinations test. So far it works nicely. Have a look here (just for the picture ref'):

Now momol you keep linking to the front page of the store (its because of webpage frames btw), if you want to show us a picture of it you could always right click on its photo, choose properties and that will give you its specific url. Copy that then click on the 'picture icon', when making a new post, paste the url in there and it will display the picture.

You can usually do a similar thing with the url of the specific webpage, but its sometimes more difficult to get the right address from a pages' 'properties' rather than from the address bar.

                    Hi

                    Thanks for all the advice.
I better get one soon, other wise I wont need one because it will be warm enough.

A very odd website structure indeed, it seems to be made of tables and frames. Then when I found a picture it wouldn't give its properties - 1st time I ever seen that!

                          Oh well, no worries.

Edit - just seen your photo, its a cute thing with 3 seperate 'cells'. There was also one with 7 cells and 10!

(Sorry I only really put that in cos I hate to let inanimate objects beat me! - its fun though!)

Think that's the same propogator that my mum bought me for Christmas (one of my best pressies!), it's very handy for smaller sowings as my original propogator is MUCH bigger.

Finally it work ! Yeah he always (Ton Vreken) put things in rather strange ways, never manage to find where he locates his seeds ( been there twice).
He does has several types of propagator with and without thermostat plus the heated mat and lots of seeds ( love it).

Thanks Alison, I just tested for germinations haven't really used it. I like it because it can be place at the window sill plus I don't sow much heat loving seeds. Will use it in 2 weeks time for germinating chili and aubergine seeds.
