Hi Tracy, welcome to the Vine. Where do you live/garden? You can go to your profile and enter your location - just a county would do, but it does help the rest of us when giving advice re growing conditions and planting/harvesting dates.
Well, I have have grand plans for a garden chock full of pretty flowers (Pelphiniums, hollyhocks, poppies and a few others. I've never tried any veg/fruit growing, but I did buy 2 apple trees last year so those are coming along nicely, and I'm going to try strawberries and carrots this year.
I live on a new estate, where everyone (and I mean everyone!) doesn't bother with flowers or trees. They only have grass gardens. I can't bear it, so I bucked the trend last year and filled my garden with loads of Lavender and dahlias. Would you believe that people were complaining because my garden was different to all the rest? Then I got lots of compliments from a couple of my friendlier neighbours. This year will be easier for me as DS2 will be 2 years old in April so hopefully I'll have more time to get digging.
Sadly our soil is so terrible- the contractors must have used our garden as a tip then turfed over the lot. DH dug a flower bed for me and pulled up all manner of pipes, plastics and bricks!
Nevermind, so I'm hoping that you'll make me greenfingered! PS- I've just bought a wormery so I'm really trying to do my bit!
Alas, I think that you will find the same thing with most new-build developments. Unfortunately as they have to pay to get hardcore and such things taken away, you often find the strangestthings under the turf.
Anyway as places go you'll be hard pushed to find a better place than here for advice, support and a bit of a laugh. Enjoy!
