  • hello and help for newbie please

    hi there,
i have just taken over a very overgrown and unloved lottie which is 30x90 feet approx.
i am trying to find out how to work out the amount of seed potatoes i would need for a section enough for three family members including a tato mash monster aged 4.
Also have brambles on site. Is it best to dig them, burn them or keep them and see if i get backberries (or are they different type????).
thanx for any help or advice.

Just to say welcome to the vine.

Don't have a lottie myself but we have had lots of people joining since the start of year asking similar questions to yours, in particular to preparing the soil, the digging, clearing brambles etc. Have a read of the earlier threads with excellent advices. Hopefully someone will come along and give you a more detailed recommendations of actions. BTW there is allotment section as well.

How long is a piece of string?????

OK...we were a family of 4 and grew 12 rows of 12 spuds ( 14ft rows) and had plenty- but not enough to store for winter.

Some for the blight, relatives and neighbours to.

Hope that gives you an idea??

Now we are two ...and visitors, we grow 6 or 7 rows of 10 spuds.

I guess...from the maths thats 45 spuds per person ( about 30 in a 2.5kg bag of small new spuds)...take it from there...

        ...and welcome to the Vine!!!

Hi Joolz, can't answer your question I'm afraid (looking for the answer myself haah!) but just wanted to come by and say welcome to our happy band!
Life may not be the party we hoped for but since we're here we might as well dance
