  • Hello Everyone,

Just found your site and hope to learn lots about gardening now we have 1 of our own.Deep snow here in Yorkshire/Lancashire borders. so busy making 'landing patches' for the birds to feed. With the gale force winds( my biggest garden enemy) plus rain and snow not been able to prepare ground for my sweet peas yet.
Has anyone out there any tips for making a really strong support system re sweet peas? Last yr. my 7' bamboo stixs succumbed to the frequent rain/winds just when the flowers were at their best!
    Thank you

Hi Watalotofrain, I had to do a double take on your name before I realised it wasn't some strange Yorkshire dialect Welcome to the forum.
Why not go the whole hog with your frame ind install two 6" concrete fence posts. You can run guide wires between them and they'll never blow away! I've got a steel conduit set in concrete with a cane wigwam round it, stands up to anything the weather can throw at it.
I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

        Welcome to the vine.

I know somebody who use chicken wire supported by two thick & heavy wooden post at each ends but I think this was for growing peas, not sweet peas - sorry no help.

welcome from me too.........read somewhere this last week about cutting short lengths of old metal tubing or copper pipe and putting the canes into them for additional strength and protection ......dont know if that would work
