  • Gardening Clubs in East Herts

    Hi guys

I do not seem able to find out about any gardening clubs in East Herts. Although it is fantastic to have this forum for help, sometimes it would be good to speak to people face to face.

    Does anyone know of any.

    HELP!!!!

Local clubs' details are often to be found in the local library - otherwise, try the local newspaper.....

    Hope you find one!

Little Hadham has a gardening club.
Bishop's Stortford has its Allotments and Gardens Association.

HCC & EHDC has list of local organisations, as does the Herts & Essex Observer and Hertfordshire Mercury, each published weekly.
Always thank people who have helped you immediately, as they may not be around to thank later.

            Hi lemon,

Thank you for the link, it looks very interesting and i will be investigating further.

My allotment is actually in Dane End, hidden next to a field and fingers crossed, is starting to look good. although i do not know what i am doing wrong as i cannot get dwarf french beans to germinate for neither love nor money.

Do you have an allotment and whereabouts is it.

              Hi Kim,

I don't have an allotment - have toyed with the idea on and off in past and am now debating whether to go on waiting list at Stevenage. There is a large allotment prob about 5-10mins drive away from my house - no idea of vacancies. What puts me off is if I could find time to tend to allotment. I work 20miles from home and don't get in 'til around 6pm. I have dinner to do when I get in of course (no little 'uns as yet). Also, might be really unlucky and get an overgrown plot.

I just have 2 raised beds we made a couple of years back. They are 1m x 2m each. I also have pots that I use too. How big is your plot?

                Hi Lemon,
I do know what you mean, i also work 20 miles from home and do not get in until 6pm, luckily our allotment is a 2 minute walk from our house and i do not do much over there on weeknights, although that may change if i get a nice warm evening and we decide to take a walk over just to check up on things. We do, however often spend a couple of hours there over the weekend, pottering about, weeding etc. I think that i would not spend as much time over there if i had to drive, but that is just me and i admit i am spoilt with the proximity of the allotment to the house.

Our allotments are very small, we have one small piece of land approx 6mx6m that was previously cultivated and we have added another piece of land that is approx 3mx12m that was never before cultivated and was just nettles, thistles, dock leaves and couch grass. it was a lot of hard work for the hubbie and we do not expect the soil to be how we would like it for a couple of years yet.

                Regards

                Kim
