  • Its all about me

    Hi,

it occured to me that most new people have posted a message saying who they are etc, ive been posting a bit but havent said hello to the group so hear it is..

Hello im gary from the wirral

ive been growing veg for 5 years now and basically taught myself from the ground up although i have studied botany / ecology at university which may have helped. I grow all my veg at home (havent the time for an allotment yet being in my prime 30's)

When i bought my house i developed raised beds over membrane to give me 3 raised beds (full sleeper long by half wide) filled with topsoil and topped up anually with home made compost. I also have a 4th bed now with is big enough to fit 4 of the above type in. I would say it gives me about 80% of my annual usage crop of veggies. I also have a lean to greenhouse which is south facing which i use for toms, chillis, bonsai production, succulents and carnivorus plants.

I try mostly to be organic but to be fair i have had to use slug pellets in the past as well as tomato liquid feeds. The only spray pesticides i use are in the greenhouse as some of my rare/hard to keep plants reside here (but when its warm i use my lizards to cull the bugs)

so there you have it, ill try to keep sharing my knowledge on the site where i can and hopefully pick up new tips too...

We had geckos at home in SA. They were those white almost see through jobs! They used to run around on the walls and ceilings quite amazing to watch them catching mosquitoes etc.! Watched one stalk a moth one night - they are really crafty! Love their feet with those sticky pads on them!
