  • Strawberry Planter

Hello, me again with another question!

Last summer (ha!) i planted one of those terracotta stawberry planter things with about 10 stawberry plants of various varieties. They did ok-ish considering the weather (but the squirrels got as many as i did! )

Anyhoo, do i need to do anything to it ready for this year or will they be ok as they are. All the leaves etc died down over the winter but the new leaves are just starting to grow now so do i need to feed it or anything & if so, with what?

    Any tips gratefully received!

Leave them where they are, cut any dead material off ie leaves, any plants that dont grow back replace, feed about once a month and make sure that the planter doesnt dry out during summer.

I have a strawberry planter, and the same leaves died off and now new shoots growing, I took off the runners last year and potted them up in the greenhouse over winter and they have come on a treat , some leaves been nibbled by slugs.
But I would just leave it to grow on and see how it picks up.
I water mine every other day and feed once a month in summer.

ordinary plant food or tomato food will do fine, I use tomato feed and top dressing of chicken manure pellets.

this has just saved me asking the same!
i've got 2 small terracota strawberry planters, one 5 of a normal size variety, one with 5 of a smaller variety
only got a handful of strawberries last year - think the birds and squirrels etc got more than i did ...

Yep, squirrels got more than i did too. Even though the planter is sat right outside my kitchen window on the decking - cheeky little bleeder!
