Seed quantity

Hello

This is my first year growing anything more that tomatoes. I've bought lots of packets of seeds. I am amazed at the difference in the quantity of seeds in each packet. I've had a pack of peas with 8 peas and a packet with, what seems like 200, peas. The same with other seeds.

Is this typical?

Yep!!! And I bet the prices varied a lot too?

Some of the more expensive veg have had a lot of time and effort and research into improving the variety- that'll be what you are paying for. ( I hope )

And Nicos, in France we still buy them - mainly - by weight tho as you say tyhe expensive ones tend to be those more 'thoroughbred' and often they're sold by number/weight.

Do they sell them at the markets mainly ( as well as plants) -or do you find them at hardware -type shops?
...I wonder what 10 tomato seeds would weigh???
