This is my second year on my allotment and feet are itching to get planting. I have a question about the above. My allotment is organic and I am unsure whether Blood Fish and Bone can be used on an organic patch and if so when. Any advice would be gratefully received.

as far as i know it is organic im going to use it on my raised beds. your supposed to sprinkle it over the soil 2/3 weeks before you start sowing.my plot march 2013http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvzqRS0_hbQ

We're organic and use it as an occasional top dressing around fruit bushes/canes. A friend is vegetarian and will not use it on hers. So long as no vegetarians/vegans are going to be eating your produce then you should be OK.Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I'm veggie and it's not that I'm against using it, it's the fact I know what it is that puts me off big style. :P

I'm definately going to be putting that on next weekend. The thing about manure is it does good things to the soil structure, but is really quite low in nutrients. Just relying on manure, won't give you the biggeest and best growing plants, so go for it! I sprinkle a big of organic fertiliser at this time of year too, and add some nematodes to combat those pesky slugs!Vegmonkey and the Mrs. - vegetable gardening in a small space in Cheltenham at www.vegmonkey.co.uk

thanks for replies, veg monkey what type of organic fertiliser do you use as I get confused by it all and with the nematodes do you have to use them in a restricted area or can you use them on an open bed, seem to recall Monty Don using them on a raised bed to prevent the monkeys coming back again
