  • Hello - Happy to be here !

Good afternoon all, how's it going ?

Thought I'd say Hi, as I've been lurking for a day or two trying to gather info.

A bit about me then -

    Mike
    26 (27 shortly)
    St. Helens on Merseyside
Never grown a vegetable / fruit in my life - but I learn quickly !!

As you can see, this is gonna be a learning curve !! haha

Well, I'm still gathering info using the search function (after all that's what it's there for )

I plan to grow the following this year all being well :

    Rooster potatoes
    Spring onions
    Peppers
    Chillis
    Corn on the Cob
    Salad leaves
    Brocolli (maybe)

Is there anything that I can't grow in tubs ? Anything major I need to be aware of as I go ?

I'm still gathering info, and off out this afternoon to buy some bits and bobs (seeds for onions/peppers etc. from Wilko's and a windowsill propigator to do the seeds from etc.)

Thanks guys, looking forward to gaining some knowledge and trying to help where I can.

    Mike

Hello and welcome to the vine Mike. I think all of those will be fine in containers. Have fun and keep lots of notes so you can refer back to them next year.
    Happy Gardening,

Welcome to the vine. You'll be right at home here, possibly one of the best gardening/GYO forum .

For container gardening, I found this site, see what you think but do read other threads as there may already be similar questions on growing in containers.

Also Wilko is good start for most gardening essentials with their affordable pricing policy.

Hi and welcome Mike. Best advice when growing in tubs is don't let them get dry.
                    Good luck, they'll taste fantastic.

Hello and welcome Mike I think the best advice is to 'have a go'! As long as you're not precious about 'perfect' results, there's great fun to be had with experimenting with what works how and where.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Thanks for all the great responses guys - I'm overwhelmed by the overall level of enthusiasm and happy demeanour of most people on here. Lovely to see

I've been out and bough some seeds for the following today :

                          Spring onions
                          Salad leaves
                          peppers
                          chillis
                          onions
and a few other things, aswell as a tub to grow the onions in

Looking forward to getting started now, will get a tubtrug for my spuds at the end of the week and get cracking. Gonna buy the mini greenhouse thingy and some trays from Aldi on Thursday.

Thanks guys, I'll keep you posted with pics when I begin.

                          Mike

                            Hi Mike,

Just down the road from you on the Wirral. Ahh us Northeners and the crud weather we have to stick together! I'm a relative newbie as well, just got an allotment and start my RHS course (wanna pursue as career somehow). If you're like me, you'll be addicted dead quick. I'll make so many mistakes. look forward to hearing all your exploits (in the garden, that is!)
