  • Bamboo Disaster

    Hi,

I have been sitting down A&E most of today as this morning (i thought it would be a nice day for a bit of work) i bent down and poked my eye really quite hard on a bamboo cane.

I need some ideas how to make these canes visable!!!

    Oooh dear! Poor lad.

Hope it's all ok - that can be very nasty.

It's a classic gardener's injury that they warn about in the books. You need to buy some "cane toppers" - they are rubbery and prevent injury. Your local garden centre will have some.

Otherwise, make your own. I've drilled holes in old corks to make toppers for thin sticks, for example.

Oh dear. Hope you've not done any real damage?
As for cane toppers: upturned plastic bottles, esp.those yogurt drinks; old ping pong balls; potatoes; corks. If you want to look posh, get some "fun balls" from the kiddy toy section at Asd@ : lots of bright colours a la Diurmuid Gavin, work out about 14p a ball.

oh noooooo - that sounds horrid. Top your canes with the little yakult pots, just twist a bit of wire around the pot and cane to hold them together.

        Hope you get better soon

How awful matthew2riches. Hope there isn't too much injury

I love the idea of Asda balls, might pop down there myself.

I just chuck a upside down plant pot for a quick solution and never get much further than that really.

I did the same once, and after that I went and got some rubber cane toppers from focus diy, its not happened since.

              Cheers Chris

Hope you're okay? Do you have to wear a temporary eye patch?

Wine corks sounds the most fun to collect for your cane tops!

Yes, SBP, I was thinking that I've always gone with the Yakult option in the past, it's only drawback being that you have to drink the stuff first. A bottle or three of red seems a much better prospect.
