Hi

Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Emma and i'm hoping to start a new project and get my garden working for us. At the moment it is abit of a mess as its been left while we renovated the house. This is coming to an end and its time to get started on the outside. I have a 3 year old and we had a pot with some strawberry plants in last year which she loved so I'm hoping to get her involved.

Strawbs good with a 3 year old as they taste lovely, also anything that grows quick is good, try cress and radish.

Hello and welcome! Our nephew loves growing courgettes, marrows and pumpkins. The seeds are chunky and easy to sow and the plants grow really quickly. Best of all, he loves watering the plants (and us if we let him use the hose!!!).

I'm on the Northwest coast. Tomatos sounds good, DD loves Cherry Toms. What would be a good variety to grow in a Hang basket?

I've grown tumbling tom in my hanging basket (like Hans Mum, my now 2 year old was looking for them all last summer, wanted to be picked up a lot to pick her own!). She also loved peas fresh from the pot - we grew them up a pyramid of bamboo canes in a large tub and luckily she only copped at the end of the summer about what they were on the plant - but she was already well able to pod them! Would love to have strawberries in the garden too - might try to get a patch on the plot this year.

Also, anything that can be eaten raw is good for the garden - so when harvested, they can have a nibble straight away. Home grown sweetcorn is sooooo tasty, I had planned that last year but never planted it - great memories from my dad growing it at home though, and this summer for definite.

If she's 3 already, she might like to have her own little "patch" to dig and grow her own things on - even if it requires a lot of help, she can choose what to grow etc. Dad used to let all of us have a little patch when he was growing and it was great. (Or 3 might be a year or 2 too soon - I'll bow to the greater knowledge of grapes with older kids, I just know my toddler is soooo interested in the "other garden" but not yet in her own space in it).
